The six-member Islamic Insurance Steering Committee [IISC (the first group of founders)] was formed on August 20^th, 1998. This Committee, the IISC, suggested the formation of a Friendly Society as an immediate and viable option to cater for some of the insurance and financial needs of Muslims, thereby facilitating some level of inclusion of Muslims in the financial sector in T&T.
